A Harsh Reality
Stop. Imagine you are living in New York City. You are 18 years old. You have no faith, no money, no ambition, no support from a family structure and no where to turn. Your life revolves around substance abuse. Either you have a problem, or both you and your parents struggle from addiction. You are at rock bottom. Where do you go?
For almost 40 years the St. Francis House has been a haven for young people with these problems. It is a house of change: a house to take whatever talents you have and bring them out. "It is a way for the youth who came into this world with the odds against them to become what God wants them to be. This is a Christ centered home that brings you closer to Him," says Director Joseph Campo.
In
1967 Father Benedict Groeschel, of the Franciscan Friars of the
Renewal, founded the St. Francis House in Greenpoint, Brooklyn
in order to provide a safe haven and highly structured home
environment designed to meet the needs of young men who, having
run out of alternatives, are looking for a new start in life. We
try to break the cycle of poverty that traps our youth into
thinking they have no hope for the future.
